One of the oldest houses in Stawell, and certainly one of the most distinctive and unusual, sitting on the corner of Prince and Seaby Streets is the Diamond House.

Mr John Hearne, at age 55 first began construction of the Diamond House in 1866 and finished it in 1868. At the time Mr Hearne who was said to have had interests in some of the mining claims at the foot of Big Hill, lived with his wife in a small skillion on this block. He showed considerable skill and patience to carry out the construction of the building, due to the accurate planning needed to correctly create the diamond effect you see on the side of this flat-roofed house.

The main diamonds, which are made from brown stones and white quartz gathered from Church Hill across the road are surrounded by two inch wooden slats, on the corners of which are smaller diamonds. The stones had to be carefully cut and fitted to maintain the uniformity which has been standing for 140 years, a great achievement considering that it is said that no nails were used in its creation. After the Deaths of Mr and Mrs Hearne in 1889 and 1896, the Diamond House was sold as a private residence and has seen its fair share of owners and tenants in its time.

As a private residence it was particularly comfortable, cool in summer and warm in winter. Other then a private residence, it has seen its days as a wine saloon, a confectioner’s shop, a technical school for mining science and has even, for a time, been a meeting hall for the Seven Day Adventists.

In 1982 the Diamond House became part of the Diamond House Restaurant, with the original stonework remaining untouched. It has long been an object of interest for locals and tourists alike, and will continue to be for many years to come.

Fast becoming recognised as the best in Australia, this 18 hole course is set on 2 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.

Two mini mountains form the centre of the course from which six waterfalls and streams meander around, over and under the greens. Themed around the magnificent Grampians mountains in Victoria, many of the holes are named after popular tourist icons. i.e the 7th hole is ‘The Grand Canyon’, The 18th is “The Pinnacle” and the 10th is the “Nerve Test”.

The Management and Staff at Grampians Adventure Golf are committed to offering our patrons a real value for money experience and we are sure that your time at Grampians Adventure Golf will be full of fun and entertainment. Have Mountains of Fun at Grampians Adventure Golf!

Construction of a unique course designed and built to provide fun and entertainment for all age groups, and to complement our natural environment took just over twelve months to complete.

Set on one hectare in Halls Gap, in the heart of the magnificent Grampians National Park, Grampians Adventure Golf is an 18 hole course themed around some of the more popular local icons such as Mt William, The Pinnacle and the Grand Canyon to name just a few.

Six waterfalls and stream cascade over, under and around two small mountains to make up just some of the challenges and obstacles that players must overcome. Apart from playing the game on a meticulously kept course, the experience of travelling though the beautifully landscaped gardens with so many different plant types, and the ambience that the waterfalls, streams and ponds create, our customers are given an experience that is a pure delight.

The course is based around the Grampians National Park, over 50,000 tonnes of locally sourced rock was brought in to build mini mountains, waterfalls, streams and ponds to complement the environment. There are over 2000 plants throughout the course, many indigenous to our area used to create a totally unique Adventure Golf course.
